Sun sails for public institutions by LET – for schoolyards, kindergartens and municipal spaces
Where children play, people meet and festivals take place, you need reliable shade. Electrically retractable sun sails make schoolyards, playgrounds and event spaces usable again, without umbrellas that someone has to open and close.
Sun sails for public institutions: which space do you want to shade?

Schoolyards and educational facilities
Room to move and shade for breaks and lessons outdoors: a sail that spans the yard with no columns where children gather.

Kindergartens and playgrounds
Shade over the sandpit and play area, with no umbrella stands in the way. The sail is fixed firmly in place, securely anchored and operated at the push of a button.

Municipalities, stages and event spaces
Shade for a stage and tent area at a garden show, festival or cultural event. The sails attach to trusses and tent and can be taken down again.

Shade that works in everyday use
In a schoolyard there has to be room to move, and in a kindergarten umbrellas get in the way and have to be cleared away in wind. At the Franziskusschulen Vöcklabruck a free-standing double triangle spans the yard, with no columns where children gather. The space stays usable for breaks, exercise and lessons outdoors.
We plan the shade where your visitors spend their time. The 3D shade planning shows you in advance when which area lies in shade.
How we proceed: We clarify with you which areas are used when. The 3D shade planning shows where the shade falls at which time of day. That way you see in advance what the space delivers after installation.
Shade that nobody has to set up.
That is what sun sails are about for public institutions: spaces that stay usable in sun and light rain, without staff setting up or clearing away umbrellas.

What public institutions need from a sun sail
Schools, kindergartens and municipalities need solutions that work in everyday use without effort.
The space stays free
In the schoolyard and on the playground no umbrella stands get in the way. The sail spans the space and room to move remains.
Operation without effort
By remote control or fully automatic with sensors and timers. Nobody has to set up umbrellas or clear them away in wind.
Responsibilities and approval
Depending on the municipality, authority and building, a notification or permit may be needed. Talk to us early, we support you with the application process.
Events and stages
The sails can be fixed to trusses and tent and taken down again after the event, as at the Wolfsegg garden show.
Does a sun sail suit your space? Six questions before planning
When is the space used?
Break time, playtime, event: watch a sunny day. From when until when does nobody stay there by choice? That is the time window the sail should cover. The 3D shade planning shows it to you in advance.
Who operates the sail?
By remote control or fully automatic with sensors and timers. Nobody has to set up umbrellas or clear them away in wind, not during holidays or at weekends either.
Where can it be fixed?
Facade, columns or existing structure: a sail needs load-bearing fixing points. In the digital consultation we look at the facade and ground and clarify where a free-standing column is needed.
How windy is the location?
On open squares, roofs and hillsides, wind decides. From wind force 7 (50–61 km/h) the LET sail retracts on its own. Tell us what the location is like.
When do you use the space during the year?
Summer only or all year? When nobody is outside any more, the sail retracts. In winter, as the manufacturer, we recommend retracting it and protecting it with a LET winter cover.
What needs approval?
Depending on the municipality, building and heritage protection, a notification or permit may be needed. Public clients often have their own procurement rules. Talk to us early, we are happy to support you with the application process.
Weather, honestly
A LET sun sail provides shade and protection from light rain (water column up to 1,000 mm). It does not replace a solid roof.
In a gust the fabric gives way briefly and then tightens again by itself. From wind force 7 (50–61 km/h) it retracts. We tell you openly before planning what your space is suited for.
And in winter? As the manufacturer we recommend retracting the sail in winter, disconnecting it from power and covering it with a LET winter cover.

Sun sail, umbrella or solid roof?
Every solution has its place. What matters is what your space has to achieve in everyday use.

Shade for festivals and events
For the garden show in Wolfsegg am Hausruck, warm-toned sun sails spanned the stage and tent area and shaded guests, performers and equipment. They were fixed to the stage trusses and the tent, and the view of the landscape stayed open. After the garden show the sails were taken down again.
From practice: sun sails in public institutions
How the planning of your sun sail works
1 · Digital consultation
We look at your area on screen (30 to 60 minutes): schoolyard, playground or event space, façade and ground. You receive a budget recommendation from us during the consultation, your non-binding quote. Bring everyone who has a say, because everyone has different questions.
2 · 3D scan
Once you accept the budget recommendation, you scan your area with your phone. We explain step by step how it works.
3 · 3D shade planning and approval
In a separate appointment we show you the shade simulation for your area. Once you approve, we build in Upper Austria and install with our own LET teams, without subcontractors.
