Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We’re delighted that you’ve chosen a LET awning. Here you’ll find important information and instructions for your new electric retractable awning.
A definite yes. The fabric used for our sails is specifically designed for outdoor use and is waterproof up to 400 mm. You should only take care when rolling up the fabric whilst it is wet. In this case, we recommend unfurling the sun sail within 2–3 days and allowing it to dry. This will prevent mould from forming.
No. If a storm is approaching, the sail retracts automatically anyway. What’s more, the sun sails help maintain the temperature on the terrace for longer, making it a pleasant place to spend your evenings outdoors. A quick tip: depending on the colour and the light, insects may land on the sail. Please ensure that these are not rolled up with the sail, or wash off any insect remains in the rain or brush them off once dry.
We advise against doing this. The water pressure causes the fibres and seams to split, which can lead to significant damage.
Yes, of course! Please ensure that the fabric can move freely and that no sharp objects rub or scrape against it. In stormy weather, our sun sails move freely and retract automatically once the set wind threshold is exceeded.
Yes, but with some caveats. The sails are so robust that they won’t break, even under the weight of snow. However, if there is a lot of snow, the sails can be pressed down to the ground. Caution: if the rolled-up sails are frozen to the shaft, this can cause tears in the sail fabric whilst driving. As the manufacturer, we therefore do not explicitly recommend using the system in winter.
We recommend retracting the sun sail in winter, disconnecting it from the power supply and covering it with a LET winter protection cover. This keeps the sail dry, prevents mould from forming and stops unsightly moss from taking hold on the sail.
Yes and no. Extremely hot smoke or sparks can damage the sun sail. However, a fire pit placed to the side can provide pleasant warmth beneath the sail. It is important to ensure there is sufficient distance between the embers and the sail. We expressly do not recommend having a fire beneath the sun sail.
We market our mechanical components as being ‘virtually’ maintenance-free. The only exception is the cables, which are wear parts and should be replaced every few years depending on the load they are subjected to. We offer this cable replacement as a service, or we’ll be happy to explain how you can do it yourself.
Our wireless standard can be integrated into any smart home. If this is not clarified at the time of purchase, the relevant wireless adapters or routers will need to be purchased and installed at a later date. We’d be happy to help you choose the right ones.
LET offers a 5-year warranty provided that the service intervals are adhered to; otherwise, the warranty is valid for 2 years. The warranty does not cover soiling of the cloth or damage caused by improper use.
We use the best tubular motors currently available in our systems. These motors drive the shaft and have a memory function. In rare cases, this memory can be reset (e.g. due to power surges). Don’t worry: this does not usually cause any damage to our systems. However, the retraction and extension positions will need to be reset using the remote control.
