Sun sails for restaurants and outdoor dining by LET – electrically retractable
No more raising and folding parasols. For 27 years we have shaded large outdoor dining areas and terraces. With our sun sail your guests have a place to relax, even when the weather changes. A considered design shows your guests: you are welcome here.
Made for your outdoor dining area
Outdoor dining area
Large areas without a forest of umbrellas: one sail above many tables, shade where your guests sit.
Café terrace
In front of the building or in the courtyard: the sail blends into the facade and keeps the display window free.
Beer garden
Long tables, many guests, often wind: from wind force 7 (50–61 km/h) the sail retracts on its own.
Pavement terrace
For pavement terraces that may stay in place permanently: columns only where the space allows, and in the evening the view is open again. If the terrace has to be cleared away every day, we cannot offer a solution.
Guests in the shade stay longer.
That is what sun sails are about in restaurants: seats that can be used in sun and light rain.

What restaurateurs need from a sun sail
An outdoor dining area lives from seats that are used. This is what matters.
More seats in sun and rain
Outdoor dining and terrace stay usable in sun and light rain. That brings seats and revenue on days when the space would otherwise stay empty.
Nothing to set up, nothing to clear away
By remote control or fully automatic with sensors and timers. Staff do not have to set up umbrellas or collect them in wind.
Business carries on
We agree the installation with you so that kitchen, service and guests are disturbed as little as possible.
A plan for winter too
As the manufacturer we recommend retracting the sail in winter, disconnecting it from power and covering it with a LET winter cover.
Checking your outdoor dining area: four questions before planning
When is your outdoor area in the sun?
Watch a sunny day: from when do tables stay empty because nobody wants to sit in the heat? That is the time window the sail should cover. The 3D shade planning shows it to you in advance.
Where can it be fixed?
Facade, columns or existing structure: a sail needs load-bearing fixing points. In the digital consultation we look at the facade and ground and clarify where a free-standing column is needed.
When is your outdoor area open?
Summer only or all year? In the evening the view should be open, so the sail retracts. In winter, as the manufacturer, we recommend retracting it and protecting it with a LET winter cover.
What needs approval?
Depending on the municipality, building and heritage protection, a notification or permit may be needed. We are happy to support you with the application process.
An end to parasol chaos.
Parasols blow away. Waiters have to move, open and fold them. At the first gust, guests go inside. That costs revenue and nerves. A LET sun sail extends at the push of a button. From wind force 7 (50–61 km/h) it retracts automatically. The water column is up to 1,000 mm. No staff need to think about it.
“With the sail you are simply flexible. You don’t have all those parasol bases, and in service you don’t constantly have to keep an eye on things – putting up parasols and so on.”
— Heinrich Keplinger, Keplingerwirt
Traditional establishment since 1550, 60 outdoor terrace seats
“Parasols are great things – they fly off so far. Or if they’re fixed down properly, the waiters hurt themselves. We want neither.”
— Head chef, Lenzing AG

Why LET, not a parasol?
Your guests sit protected from sun and rain without heat build-up, and with no parasol stands in the way there is more room for tables. You also get noise protection for guests and neighbours, and the sail is an aesthetic highlight for your building. It is fully automatic, controlled by remote, sensor or app, and we plan it around your seating.
Hospitality quality means a 5-year guarantee if service intervals are observed, otherwise 2 years. You get personal advice in the digital consultation, with a non-binding quote. Finance is available for business customers.
Trapezoid sails instead of umbrella chaos
In the beer garden of the Wieninger Bräu in Freilassing, a made-to-measure, electrically controlled sun sail makes for relaxed summer evenings without umbrella chaos. It brings comfort for guests and makes service easier: extend and retract at the push of a button instead of setting up umbrellas.

How it works
1 · Digital consultation
We look at your terrace on screen (30 to 60 minutes): seating, area and ground. You receive a budget recommendation from us during the consultation, your non-binding quote. Bring everyone who has a say, because everyone has different questions.
2 · 3D scan
Once you accept the budget recommendation, you scan your area with your phone. We explain step by step how it works.
3 · 3D shade planning and approval
In a separate appointment we show you the shade simulation for your area. Once you approve, we build in Upper Austria and install with our own LET teams, without subcontractors.

Frequently asked questions about sun sails in hospitality
Yes. The fabric is stretched taut. Rain runs off and does not collect. The water column is up to 1,000 mm. Your guests sit out a summer shower under the sail. More under Sun sail in wind and rain.
Nothing your staff would have to do. The wind sensor retracts the sail by itself from wind force 7 (50–61 km/h). Afterwards it extends again. No moving, no taking down, no parasols that fly away.
One sail shades the whole terrace. It needs no parasol stands between the tables. So you have more room for guests. Seating is easy to plan. And your service staff do not have to put anything up or take it down.
A single Doppeldreieck shades up to 63 m². Larger outdoor dining areas get several sails. They are controlled together. For example, three Doppeldreieck sails in a star shape over a restaurant terrace.
Yes. After the digital consultation we create a 3D shade plan of your terrace. You see in advance where shade falls at what time of day, and how columns and sails fit with the seating.
The earlier you enquire, the safer. After the digital consultation, the 3D scan and your approval of the shade planning, we make your sail to measure in Upper Austria and install it with our own teams. We discuss the time to installation with you personally. Many outdoor dining areas plan in autumn or winter and start the new season with the sail.
Yes. We plan several areas together, even at different locations. You have one contact for all sails and uniform colours and shapes. We coordinate installation with your business, for example on days off or before the season starts.
A sun sail is an investment, not a consumable. It changes on how many days a year your outdoor area is open: every outdoor seat is usable in sun and summer rain, and when the wind picks up the sail retracts by itself, without anyone setting up, tensioning or collecting parasols. Your service stays with the guests, no parasol flies away, no parasol stand blocks a table. What that means for your business, we calculate in the digital consultation with your figures.
