Winterising your sun sail: fit the protective cover

Why correct winterising matters

Winterising your sun sail is a crucial step in protecting it from harsh winter weather. Correct storage extends the sail’s lifespan and ensures it’s ready for use again in spring.

Step-by-step guide to winterising your sun sail

Step 1: Drying

Open your sun sail on a sunny, dry autumn day. Leave it fully extended for 1-2 hours to make sure it’s completely dry.

Step 2: Disconnect power

Disconnect the sun sail from the mains to avoid electrical damage.

Step 3: Fit the protective cover

Use a protective cover (tarpaulin) to shield the sun sail. Be sure to fit the cover correctly and close the zip completely.

Step 4: Fixing points and ropes

Check the fixing points and ropes. Don’t loosen or remove any ropes if you’re using a purpose-made tarpaulin.

Step 5: Secure the cover

Secure the cover with the press studs and make sure it covers the entire sail.

Step 6: Final checks

Inspect the sail and cover for any damage or loose parts. Make sure the sail is properly secured to the roller.
