Sun sails for hospitality by LET – for restaurants, outdoor dining and hotels
A terrace that stays empty in the midday sun or light rain earns nothing. Electrically retractable sun sails make outdoor dining areas, terraces and pools usable again.
Guests in the shade stay longer.
That is what sun sails are about in hospitality: seats that can be used in sun and light rain.
Sun sails for restaurants and hotels: which kind of business are you?

Restaurants and outdoor dining
More seats in your outdoor area in sun, wind and rain, without umbrellas that have to be cleared away every evening.

Hotels and resorts
Breakfast terrace, pool, spa and rooftop: sun sails that suit the building and your guests.

Seats, not square metres
Every table that stays empty in the midday heat is missing from the day’s revenue. At Backhaus Häussler in Illertissen, two retractable sails shade more than 60 m² of café terrace, with rain protection and room for more seats.
We plan the shade where your guests sit. The 3D shade planning shows you in advance which seats you gain.
How we proceed:
• We count with you the seats that stay empty in the sun.
• The 3D shade planning shows where the shade falls at which time of day.
• You see in advance which seats you gain.
Does a sun sail suit your space? Six questions before planning
When is your space in the sun?
Watch a sunny day: from when until when does nobody sit there by choice? That is the time window the sail should cover. The 3D shade planning shows it to you in advance.
How many seats do you gain?
Count the seats that stay empty in the midday heat or in light rain. That is your gain per day, not the area in square metres.
Where can it be fixed?
Facade, columns or existing structure: a sail needs load-bearing fixing points. In the digital consultation we look at the facade and ground and clarify where a free-standing column is needed.
How windy is the location?
On exposed terraces, roofs and hillsides, wind decides. From wind force 7 (50–61 km/h) the LET sail retracts on its own. Tell us what the location is like.
When do you use the space?
Summer only or all year? In the evening the view should be open, so the sail retracts. In winter, as the manufacturer, we recommend retracting it and protecting it with a LET winter cover.
What needs approval?
Depending on the municipality, building and heritage protection, a notification or permit may be needed. We are happy to support you with the application process.
Weather, honestly
A LET sun sail provides shade and protection from light rain (water column up to 1,000 mm). It does not replace a solid roof.
In a gust the fabric gives way briefly and then tightens again by itself. From wind force 7 (50–61 km/h) it retracts. We tell you openly before planning what your space is suited for.
And in winter? As the manufacturer we recommend retracting the sail in winter, disconnecting it from power and covering it with a LET winter cover.

Sun sail, umbrella or solid roof?
Every solution has its place. What matters is what your space has to achieve in daily operation.

How the planning of your sun sail works
1 · Digital consultation
We look at your area on screen (30 to 60 minutes): terrace, pool area or roof terrace, façade and ground. You receive a budget recommendation from us during the consultation, your non-binding quote. Bring everyone who has a say, because everyone has different questions.
2 · 3D scan
Once you accept the budget recommendation, you scan your area with your phone. We explain step by step how it works.
3 · 3D shade planning and approval
In a separate appointment we show you the shade simulation for your area. Once you approve, we build in Upper Austria and install with our own LET teams, without subcontractors.
