A manufactory from Upper Austria since 1999
LET Sonnensegel is a family business from Upper Austria and a manufactory of made-to-measure, electrically retractable sun sails for the DACH region. Since 1999 we have advised, planned, built and installed high-quality shading solutions entirely in-house. Every LET sun sail is developed individually, built in our own workshop and tailored to the architecture, the use and the weather – for private terraces, restaurants, hotels and demanding architectural projects.
Facts at a glance
Since 1999
Founded by Franz Lerchner in Upper Austria – experience with electrically retractable sun sails since 1999.
In-house manufactory
Development, production, testing and installation from one source – in Upper Austria.
Water column up to 1,000 mm
Wind force 7
At 50–61 km/h the sail retracts fully automatically – the wind sensor decides, not the user.
Warranty
5-year manufacturer’s warranty, provided service intervals are kept, otherwise 2 years.
A team of up to 30
A well-practised team for planning, engineering, production and installation – all from one source.

Technology that disappears
Motor and spring mechanism sit entirely inside the roller and are permanently protected from wind and weather. Only the sail is visible from outside – no cassette, no exposed technology. When wind picks up, the fabric can give way; when the gust eases, it tightens itself again. That is how a LET sun sail stays taut in every position, half extended or fully open.
A wind sensor with a light sensor watches the weather: in strong wind the sail retracts fully automatically, in sunshine it extends. Control is at the touch of a button – by remote control, app or smart-home system (KNX, Loxone).

Three basic shapes
All models use the same technology with an internal spring mechanism. They can be fixed to a wall, masonry or column, or stand free – several sails can be combined into large, continuous areas of shade.

Dreieck
Roller length up to 7 m · extension up to 12 m
The classic shape for terraces and seating areas.

Doppeldreieck
Roller length up to 9 m · extension up to 9 m
Two sails, one drive – generous shade for restaurant gardens and wide terraces.

Trapez
Roller length up to 7 m · extension up to 7 m
The purist shape for rectangular areas and balconies.

The fabric
The fabrics also protect in precipitation – a summer shower can be sat out underneath. Solution-dyed premium acrylic fabrics keep their colour even after years of intense UV exposure. Because the fabric sits on the roller, it can be replaced later without replacing the system.

Planning with LET
The first step is the digital consultation: by video we clarify the installation situation, dimensions and wishes – without waiting. The LET planning team then develops the right solution using 3D shade planning. A technical project manager supports the implementation personally – from detailed planning to coordination with architects, trades and installation teams.

Committed to craftsmanship
Production and quality assurance take place in our own manufactory in Upper Austria – from metalworking to fabric making-up. Every sun sail is assembled, tensioned and tested before it leaves the manufactory. Installation and handover are carried out by experienced LET installation teams who know the system.

Planning & production
Every sun sail is produced in the manufactory exactly to plan.

Making-up
Sewn with precision – handwork you do not see on the finished sail, but feel.

Installation
Assembled, tensioned and tested before it leaves the manufactory – installed by our own team.
A premium product is created where technology and design come together without compromise.

A family business with conviction
LET is run today as a family business by Franz Lerchner, Carina Loidl and Christian Loidl. What began as a technical idea and personal passion has grown into a manufactory of made-to-measure, electrically retractable sun sails in the German-speaking region, with more than 500 completed projects in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

Franz Lerchner
Founder and owner
An electrician who was asked by a sailmaker friend in 1999 whether a sun sail could be electrified. His first prototype did not convince him – and that was exactly the beginning of LET: a product that is technically well thought out, durable, beautiful and easy to operate.

Carina Loidl
Member of the management
An experienced manager, most recently in senior roles at Lufthansa. She joined in 2024 with a clear principle: go through every stage herself, from the customer conversation to installation. Since 2026 she has been a member of the management, together with founder Franz Lerchner and owner Christian Loidl.

Christian Loidl
Owner
In 2019 Christian Loidl brought a new entrepreneurial impulse to the company – first as an adviser, later as a co-owner on equal terms. Together with Franz, he took LET to the next level in structure, organisation and strategy.
Customer service
– On-site service: our own teams in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Mallorca for seasonal set-up and winterising, maintenance and repair.
– Repair instead of replacement: When a wear part is due, it is replaced – repair, fabric replacement and maintenance are as much a part of the craft as the first installation.
– One dedicated contact: from planning to service, one person who knows your project is with you.
– Financing: available individually, on request.
