The autumn check for your sun sail
Before your sun sail goes into winter, a short check is worthwhile. It does not take long and makes sure everything is ready in spring. We explain winterising itself step by step on a page of its own.
Three things to keep in mind
Clean
Remove heavier dirt with a soft brush or sponge. Do not scrub.
Inspect
Check the mechanical parts for visible damage and record the inspection in the logbook.
Mind the ropes
The pull rope wears through friction and UV light. The operating manual recommends checking and replacing it every 4 years.
How to clean the fabric
Step 1
With the sail retracted, unhook the carabiner on one side. A second person pre-tensions the rope with about 1 kg of pull.
Step 2
Extend the sail and make sure the ground below is clean and dry.
Step 3
Remove insects and heavier dirt with a soft brush or sponge. If needed, moisten and brush out, but do not scrub.
Step 4
Rinse with a garden hose. Hard water leaves limescale marks; a small amount of vinegar in the rinse water prevents this.
Step 5
Retract the sail fully and re-attach the carabiner. Repeat on the second side. Finally extend the sail and let it dry.
Before winterising, the fabric must be dry.
Self-inspection and maintenance
Private use: once a year. Commercial use: once a month. Rope and pulley replacement: every 4 years, depending on local conditions.
The mechanical parts are checked for visible damage using the inspection points in the operating manual. If damage is found, the system must no longer be operated – please contact us.
Switch off the power for any work on the system and secure it against being switched back on, so the sail cannot start unintentionally.
