Making your sun sail winter-proof: fitting a protective cover

The importance of proper winter storage

Storing your sun sail for the winter is a crucial step in protecting it from the harsh winter weather. By storing it correctly, you can extend the sail’s lifespan and ensure it is ready for use again in the spring.

Step-by-step guide to winterising your sun sail

Step 1: Drying

Open the sun sail on a sunny, dry autumn day. Let it fully extend for 1–2 hours to ensure it is completely dry.

Step 2: Disconnect the power supply

Disconnect the awning from the mains to prevent electrical damage.

Step 3: Put on the protective cover

Use a protective cover (tarpaulin) to protect the sun sail. Make sure you fit the cover correctly and close the zip fully.

Step 4: Attachment points and ropes

Check the attachment points and ropes. Do not loosen or remove any ropes if you are using a specially designed cover.

Step 5: Secure the protective cover

Fasten the protective cover with press studs and make sure it covers the entire sail.

Step 6: Final checks

Check the sail and the cover for any damage or loose parts. Make sure the sail is properly secured to the shaft.
