Sun sail for a roof terrace in Berlin – when architecture and shade align
In the heart of Berlin, yet set in greenery: here an entrepreneur couple built their second home – this time thought through from front to back. From the flooring and the garden to the façade colour, everything is matched. Even the shade of the sun sail fits the whole picture.

Design concept
On their first build the owners learned what matters – and on the second left nothing to chance. Colours, pool, garden, floors and façade interlock. The sun sail is part of this design, not a later add-on: tone-matched, it complements the clean architecture and the style of the house.
The roof terrace sits beautifully exposed above the treetops – with a wide view, but also open to the wind. That is exactly where the sail proves its double benefit: it shades not only the terrace but also protects the adjoining bedroom from summer overheating.
What the Berlin owners value most is how straightforward it was with LET: local presence through our partners and a handshake quality in the planning. Not one fixing too many was set – at installation, everything fitted.
Even in planning the sail was previewed on a 3D model – visible right on the phone, how it would later look. It is handcrafted in our manufactory in Upper Austria. That is why the finished sail feels not like bolted-on technology, but like a design element that belongs to the architecture.

From an exposed, windy roof garden to a sheltered favourite spot: the electric retractable sun sail brings pleasant shade to the terrace, keeps the adjoining bedroom cool and blends, in colour, naturally into the architecture.
Project highlights

A sheltered favourite spot
The sail turns the exposed roof terrace into a lasting feel-good zone and extends the living space outdoors.

Cooler rooms
The shade also protects the adjoining bedroom from summer overheating and noticeably lowers the room temperature.

Part of the architecture
Perfectly integrated in form and colour, the sail hugs the architecture and reads as a design element, not as technology.

Wind- and weatherproof
Even in stronger wind the sail stays safely tensioned; in a storm it retracts automatically – and in light rain it keeps protecting.
Wind and weather resistance
On a roof terrace this exposed, the technology has to think along. The sun sail is governed by a wind sensor and extends and retracts fully automatically – tightly wound, crease-free and safely tensioned. The slender posts are expertly fitted and stay pleasingly delicate in view.
