A positive sun sail experience: the sail as part of the architectural concept

Relaxed architecture, large windows and heat in the courtyard: here the sun sail provides efficient climate management outside and in. Perfectly integrated in form and colour, it nestles against the architecture. From now on the blinds stay up and the view into nature remains undisturbed.

The challenge: the courtyard lay in full sun all day long

The orientation of the house creates a wind-protected courtyard – pleasant as long as the sun isn't high. But from around 20 degrees the courtyard lay in full sun all day and was barely usable in high summer. With the electrically retractable sun sail, the heat trap becomes the favourite spot again – it changes not only the microclimate but the way the whole house is used.

Shade that cools all the way into the kitchen

The shade doesn't stay on the terrace: because the sail shields the courtyard, it also cools the adjacent rooms right into the kitchen. The living space extends outdoors – and indoors it stays noticeably more pleasant, entirely without lowered blinds.

The sail is perfectly integrated into the architecture in form and colour – it nestles against the structure and feels like a design element, not bolted-on technology.

Control is fully automatic via sun and wind sensors: the sail extends and retracts by itself and responds independently to weather and time of day.

Wetter- und windfestes Sonnensegel von LET bei Erfahrungsbericht

The stability of the sun sail particularly impressed the owners: it stays securely tensioned even in stronger winds and retracts fully automatically in extreme weather. In light rain it stays extended and reliably protects the outdoor area – wind-stable up to wind force 7, controlled by sun and wind sensors.

Project highlights

NUM 1

Part of the architecture

Integrated in form and colour – the sail nestles against the structure instead of looking bolted on.

NUM 2

Cools into the kitchen

The shade noticeably lowers the room temperature – the rooms up to the kitchen stay pleasantly cool.

NUM 3

Blinds stay up

The view into nature stays clear, the cooling demand drops – shading without darkening.

NUM 4

Wind-strong and automatic

Securely tensioned in wind, automatic retraction in storms – all controlled at the push of a button.
