Sun sail for a villa by a forest lake near Berlin
Barely half an hour outside Berlin, in a refined district right by the lake: here stands a stately villa amid greenery – a venerable period building, several storeys, facing south. On the top viewing terrace, the main living area, a made-to-measure Trapez sun sail provides shade without blocking the view of the greenery.

Design concept
The challenge was clear: the south-facing storeys need consistent shade. The old masonry stays pleasantly cool in summer, yet up top, in the main living area, the terrace must stay cool so the interior does not overheat. Umbrellas could never cover the large area, and the venerable building offered no clean fixing for a classic awning.
With our in-house architects we created a solution that adapts to the house’s style rather than disrupting it – even extending the villa visually. The Trapez sun sail now reigns over the terrace: elegantly clamped, without drilling into the historic masonry. The view of the greenery stays clear.
Installation was planned and carried out by our Berlin fitting team – clean and precise on the existing structure. So the sail blends naturally into the whole and looks as if it had always belonged to the villa.
During planning the sail was previewed on a 3D model – visible right on your phone, just as it would later appear. It is handcrafted in our manufactory in Upper Austria. So the finished sail feels not like bolted-on tech, but like a design element belonging to the architecture.

Project highlights

Cooler interior
Continuous shade on the top terrace keeps the main living area behind it pleasantly cool.

Clear view of the greenery
The slim posts keep the view over the lake and the greenery clear – the shade blocks nothing.

Part of the architecture
Designed with our in-house architects, the Trapez sail blends into the venerable period building and extends it visually.

Wind- and weatherproof
Wind-sensor controlled, the sail retracts automatically in strong wind; clamped without drilling, the historic masonry stays untouched.
Wind and weather resistance
On the exposed viewing terrace the sail extends and retracts flexibly. Controlled by a wind sensor, it retracts automatically in strong wind – the slim posts stay discreet and keep the view of the greenery clear.
