When planning by LET makes the difference

Despite the pool, the terrace often went unused in high summer – the sun made sitting outside unpleasant, so people retreated indoors. This project shows what precise planning can achieve: combining a Dreieck and a Trapez sail created an exceptionally large, continuous area of shade – matched exactly to the architecture and the sun’s path. Today the terrace is in use all summer, almost a second living room in the open air.

Made-to-measure modern sun sail

What sets this project apart is its precise planning and pared-back construction. With just two posts, a generous, free-spanning shade solution emerges that also serves as privacy screening. The two sails can be controlled independently, allowing flexible use by time of day and need. The final solution was developed from a 3D shade analysis and chosen deliberately from several variants. Made in our own manufactory and installed by our specialists on site, the result is a system that rigorously unites planning, engineering and execution.

Design concept

The design follows the clean architecture of the house. The modern flat roof, the pared-back lines and the matched colours of façade and windows are complemented by the grey sail without taking centre stage. Together with the garden design, a calm, coherent whole emerges – a modern outdoor space that feels like a refuge and deliberately puts the architecture in the spotlight.

Challenges and solutions


The challenge here lay in shading a large area while meeting differing demands for use and privacy. Along the pool a continuous privacy screen was wanted, while the adjoining terrace needed flexible shade. A full enclosure with a glass roof was originally planned. Yet the decision deliberately fell on a lighter, more open solution – a sun sail that offers protection without closing off the architecture, keeping the outdoor space and its effect intact.
