Sun sail shading at the Hotel*** Restaurant Rupertigau
With a made-to-measure sun sail design, the Hotel and Restaurant Rupertigau in Wals-Siezenheim sets new standards in outdoor comfort and architecture. The free-standing Tailor Made sun sail offers stylish protection at the highest level and creates a generous cover for the veranda – without affecting the breathtaking panoramic view of the Untersberg.

Precise shading in the corner
The made-to-measure sun sail at the Hotel und Restaurand Rupertigau in Wals-Siezenheim shows how a modern terrace cover and stylish shading mesh perfectly. The Doppeldreieck sail offers wide-area protection from sun, rain and wind – with no intrusive posts in the line of sight. The open view of the imposing Untersberg is preserved, and guests enjoy the highest comfort in any weather

Design concept
The project at Gasthof Rupertigau impressively shows how modern sun-protection design unites functional demands with architectural elegance – with the aim of shielding guests in style from sun, wind and rain all year round.
The shape was a deliberate choice: with a rectangle, the drive shaft would run straight through the surface – the double-triangle form instead shades exactly the corner the existing awnings cannot reach, while staying open to its surroundings. The free view of the Untersberg is preserved.
Instead of an extra post that would have spoilt the view, the sail was fixed directly to the existing awnings using special clamps – fitted precisely to the guest veranda. Beforehand, a shade simulation across the day showed where and when the shade falls, so nothing was left to chance.
Controlled automatically via the building automation, the system adapts to the day and the weather – efficient, reliable and with no extra effort for the staff.
Challenges and solutions
The made-to-measure construction is based on LET's proven Tailor Made system and was fitted precisely to the structural conditions on site. The double-triangle design creates a generous cover with airy lightness, while slender supporting elements form an aesthetically perfect addition to the existing architecture. The high-quality tensioning keeps the sail taut for the long term – even in changeable weather. The result is a sheltered open-air space that stays usable all year round.
