Hospitality sun sails – McDonald’s Gmunden on Lake Traunsee

Probably the most enduring sun sail for hospitality in Austria. The McDonald’s McCafé on Lake Traunsee in Gmunden was among the first hospitality sites to commit to quality instead of flyaway umbrellas. The franchisee wanted a system that retracts and extends at the touch of a button – and works reliably even in rain and wind. The first LET installation ran for over 15 years. When the restaurant was fully rebuilt, the choice was clear: LET again.

The McCafé on Lake Traunsee draws guests every day – a coffee in the early morning, a quick stop on the way to work, a moment with a view of the lake. That this outdoor area deserved more than flyaway umbrellas was clear to the franchisee in Gmunden from the start. The choice fell on a combination of Doppeldreieck and Dreieck sun sails in warm mocha brown. Both sails were fully integrated into the building systems – operated at the touch of a button from anywhere, retracting automatically at wind force 7. The wave form of both sails matches the terrace layout with geometric precision. No manual effort – not even for the restaurant team.

A hospitality sun sail has to work every day – reliable, low-maintenance and with a look that fits how the business presents itself. Fabric in mocha brown, two precisely matched sail geometries, full integration into the building systems: so on Lake Traunsee a solution emerged that looks not like improvisation – but like a decision.

McDonald’s Gmunden is the only restaurant in town that really is open every single day – with consistent quality, whatever the weekday or season. That impresses. And it fits LET’s philosophy: we build sun sails that deliver, year after year, in any weather, on what they promise the first time they open. The original installation stood for over 15 years. When the restaurant was fully rebuilt, the decision was easy. Quality convinces once – and then once more.

More Information
NUM 1

An end to umbrellas

The combination of a Doppeldreieck and a single sail shades large areas reliably – without the chaos and effort of conventional umbrellas.

NUM 2

Integrated into the building systems

The sails are fully integrated into the building systems and run easily at the touch of a button or automatically – ideal for hospitality.

NUM 3

Automatic safety

A wind sensor ensures automatic safety: in strong wind the sails retract on their own, protecting both the material and the guests.

NUM 4

Proven over years

Even before the rebuild, McDonald's Gmunden chose LET – and stayed with it: a success story showing well-considered shading over years.
